Malabo has often recalled its willingness to maintain friendly and cooperative relations with all countries on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference
Diplomacy: Equatorial Guinea closes its embassy in the UK after sanctions against the vice-president of the Republic.

As a reminder, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue has never made any investment in the United Kingdom, nor has he ever been prosecuted in this country or in Equatorial Guinea for any reason whatsoever, nor for misappropriation of public funds.

The Equatorial Guinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounces the sanctions imposed by the British government which « are justified by the manipulations, lies and malicious initiatives promoted by certain non-governmental organisations against the good image of Equatorial Guinea and its legitimate representatives, on which, unfortunately, certain states have also relied to launch fictitious and relentless legal proceedings against the Vice-President of the Republic ».

Malabo has often recalled its willingness to maintain friendly and cooperative relations with all countries on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of States. The United Kingdom with its shock « anti-corruption » sanction has just broken this bond of friendship and Malabo’s response is immediate: closing the Equatorial Guinea embassy in London.

IS THIS COINCIDENCE OR THE OBVIOUS?

These sanctions from the United Kingdom come just a few days before the judgement that will be handed down in France by the Court of Cassation. Indeed, the verdict is expected on 28 July.

It seems obvious that the Equatorial Guinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs would proceed to the closure of the Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in France, if and only if the court decision were to be in favour of France and thus confirm the public sale of the diplomatic mission located at 42, avenue Foch by France, which would become according to French law its new owner.

Malabo being outraged by the repeated mistreatment and humiliations towards its State, _and this in spite of several attempts of exchanges, discussions and resolution of conflicts generated for more than 15 years by some NGOs_ would not accept any more humiliation although there are bilateral cooperations between France and Equatorial Guinea in several sectors including the maritime domain. Expats and other lovers of Malabo will probably have to go to Brussels to get their visas.

Malabo is now warning « the international community of the danger of such unilateral manoeuvres and actions, in violation of international law, which blatantly contravene the UN Charter and create an atmosphere of harassment against other states.

Equatorial Guinea seems determined not to allow any more intimidation or humiliation from another state.
